Abstract

A short piece about the Holt Research Forest in Arrowsic. The 100-acre wood has been inventoried and studied by University of Maine researchers for 40 years. With the retirement of Jack Witham, a scientist at UMaine who managed the property for 35 years, management is being turned over to the nonprofit Maine Timber Research and Environmental Education Foundation (Maine TREE), under the leadership of executive director Logan Johnson. The article touches briefly on the different research priorities of the two stewards.
