Abstract
A chronicle of recent upheaval for Maine's celebrated DaPonte String Quartet, particularly the loss of founding member Ferdinand "Dino" Liva when he became unable to perform due to severe health issues, and the group's "dismissal" by its nonprofit affiliate, Friends of the DaPonte String Quartet, which announced in 2022 its intention to no longer fund the group. The legal resolution of that announcement, Liva's transition to administrator of the new DaPonte String Quartet Foundation, and the search for a violinist to replace him combine with a discussion about the enduring relevance and value of classical music.
