Abstract
An article on Abraham Schecter, archivist and librarian at the Portland Public Library. He has begun an ambitious project to document the social and historical past of Portland's neighborhoods through maps, photographs, and other materials. Since leaving St. Joseph's College a year ago to take his current position in the Portland Room, the Chicago native has begun a comprehensive inventory, is repairing fragile books and maps, and is compiling finding aids for the library's online catalog to make the materials more accessible to the public.
