Abstract

Gulls and terns, whose very existence was threatened by feather haberdashers in 1876 and 1896, are now fixtures of the Maine shore. Their populations have been in historical flux for the last two centuries, usually as a result of economic or societal changes. Detailed article explains their historical biology, using primary sources from the last 200 years.
