Abstract
Monhegan Island residents began last fall to sort and weigh their garbage for a solid waste study, which found that 80 percent of their trash is generated during the three summer months, and half of their trash can be composted. They hope to avoid the growing landfill costs faced by islands like nearby Islesboro. Details.
