Abstract
Although Maine fishermen were racing as early as 1903, the rise of motorized marine engines caused the sloop boat races to lapse until 1961, when Bernard MacKenzie founded the Friendship Sloop Society to preserve the Friendship tradition. Article describes current races, from the large regattas to the informal Boothbay Harbor Fishermen's Festival. Details.
