Abstract

Northern shrimp are most populous in the southwestern quarter of the Gulf of Maine, where the lowest temperatures are found, travelling from 30-50 miles offshore in summer to inshore in winter. Regulation of the shrimping industry began in 1973, and rising values have offset diminishing stock. Details; shrimp biology.
