Abstract
Essay on "Pure-Gene" native islanders, who survived Indian massacres and intermarriage only to be attacked by an onslaught of bureaucrats and academics determined to save the islanders from themselves. Sociologists, fishing regulators, and social workers all put island living under such scrutiny that the Pure-Gene island culture was eventually decimated.
