Abstract

Bob Quinn of Eagle Island closes the dozen summer cottages there as well as caretaking houses on five other small islands between North Haven and Deer Isle. Quinns have owned Eagle Island for almost 200 years, but Bob, 67, and his wife Helene, 61, lack help in the winter and find the chores becoming more difficult. Bob also hauls lobster traps and Helene runs the Eagle Island Bakery out of her kitchen. During the summer, the Quinns rent out cottages and run the Quinn House as an inn. The writer follows their daily lives with visiting grandson, Sam, of the seventh generation.
