Abstract
A history of Dix Island, from its days as a center of the granite industry in the 19th century, to the 20th century, when the island was home to fishermen, to the present. The island is currently owned by the members of the Dix Island Association. The eight families that comprise this association make decisions by consensus and live without electricity or plumbing.
