Abstract
Acadia National Park comprises roughly one-half of Isle au Haut. While monies spent by visitors to the park have helped subsidize the ferry service from Stonington to the island, the land itself is non-taxable, which puts a burden on the year-round residents to fund island needs. This tension is explored, as well as the benefits of having local people employed to be rangers, rather than non-residents, as if often the case. A history of Acadia National Park is presented as well. [images]
