Maine could weather a recession without government spending cuts or higher taxes; Bangor Hydro sued Bell Atlantic after the recent ice storm; the state Business and Economic Development Committee rejected a bill to study the economy of Lewiston-Auburn; the Maine drug store company Community Pharmacies is competing with Rite Aid in communities with little pharmacologic choice; the Washington-based Center for Public Integrity ranked Maine 33rd in a study of state disclosure laws and practices; and Sky Media telemarketing center of Portland closed its Waterville office.
