    Abstract

    "Focus on Banking and Finance." Excerpts from the 2001 report of the Maine Bureau of Financial Institutions. Credit unions recorded another year of solid performance; the percentage of commercial loans that were outstanding has increased; the 48 state charted banking institutions controlled $9.8 billion in assets and the 80 federally charted institutions, $9.4 billion; government guaranteed loans declined; and mergers and acquisitions continue to consume the majority of Bureau application processing resources.
