Abstract

Competition from large supermarkets and small home businesses is threatening Asian food specialty stores throughout Portland. Asian Food Market has already closed, and Makot Pech and the Asian-Latino Market, both in Portland, report reduced sales. Shop 'n Save has been stocking Asian food for two years, and Portland has an increasing number of people who buy Asian food from Boston wholesalers and sell it from their homes.
