Abstract
When David Bateman proposed to build a luxury resort and corporate retreat in the remains of Fort McKinley on Great Diamond Island 13 years ago, bankers said it couldn't be done. Today, in addition to its townhouses, Diamond Cove is renovating the former barracks into a conference center with 32 guest rooms, which will serve corporate retreats 230 days a year and function as an inn during the summer. Great Diamond Island has been a summer retreat for over 175 years. Details.
