Abstract
The Levinsky family has prevailed in their suit against Wal-Mart. A January 1995 Biz story had remarked on a humorous radio advertisement from Levinsky's clothing store in Portland, claiming to beat Wal-Mart's prices on Dickies work pants. Wal-Mart responded by having its lawyers order Levinsky's to cease and desist, and by calling Levinsky's store "trashy." Levinsky's sued not only because of the defamatory comments, but because the family felt that bad-mouthing a competitor violated the Maine business culture. Related editorial praises Levinsky's 75-year reputation for hard work.
