Abstract

"Focus on Technology" piece on Maine Molecular Quality Controls, Inc. (MMQCI), a Scarborough firm that provides synthetic quality controls for DNA testing. MMQCI co-founders Clark Rundell and Joan Gordon fabricate "diseased" batches of DNA and sell them to labs across the country, to be used a quality control markers in molecular genetic testing of diseases such as cystic fibrosis, leukemia, tuberculosis and other diseases. The company was founded in 2000, and employs five workers.
