Abstract

"Focus on Greater Portland" piece on Spring Harbor Hospital, which rose from the ashes of the bankrupt Jackson Brook Institute (JBI), and which will soon move to a new and larger facility in Westbrook. Maine Medical Center bought the for-profit JBI in 1999. The new non-profit hospital will remain tightly integrated with MMC's psychiatric program, both of which are administered by CEO Dennis King. That integration has resulted in improved access to inpatient services. With details on the design and financing of the new $29 million facility, the mechanics of the move, and the hospital's expanded services.
