Abstract

"Building and real estate" piece on Peter Benard and Kevin French, new owners of the South Portland-based construction company Ledgewood Inc., who hope increased visibility will help increase revenues. Among other high-profile commercial projects, Ledgewood is constructing the new $9 million high-rise office building at the intersection of Portland's Fore Street and Franklin Arterial. Upon purchasing Ledgewood from founder Bill Barthelman in 2002, Benard and French streamlined accounting and project management practices, and hired Melissa Webster as marketing director. The company, founded in 1978, had 2003 revenues of $40 million, and employs 45 workers.
