Abstract

"Business Maine: Southern" piece on a recent federal court ruling that clears the way for Amtrak's Downeaster to increase its top speed from 59 mph to 79 mph, which could cut 10 minutes off its travel time from Portland to Boston. Mass.-based Guilford Rail Systems has resisted the speed increase since the 1990s, citing safety concerns. It is likely Guilford will appeal the decision.
