Abstract

"Business Maine: Central & Western" piece reporting that more land was farmed in Maine in 2002 than five years before, according to preliminary census statistics from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Though the number of farms in the state decreased during the period, from 7,404 to 7,213, the acreage in agricultural use increased by more than 53,000 acres, to 1,37 million acres.
