Abstract

From October 28 to November 5, 1995, the Society of American Foresters met in Portland, holding its convention in New England for the first time in 17 years. The 2,000 attendees -- almost double the projected audience -- and a record-setting number of student attendees made the convention the most financially successful one in SAF's history and generated $1.75 million in business for greater Portland. The Convention and Visitors Bureau uses conventions like SAF's to draw first-time visitors to Portland. Details.
