Abstract

"From the Ground Up" piece on the need for affordable housing in Maine, mentioning several mechanisms available to developers for financing affordable housing projects, including subsidies, low-cost loans and tax incentives. Recent affordable housing projects include the Bayside Housing project on Oxford Street and Cumberland Avenue in Portland, 30 units at One Taylor Drive in Brewer, 18 units on Cottage Street in Norway and renovations like the Old Westbrook High School in Westbrook and Plant Memorial Home in Bath.
