Abstract

"Focus on Western Maine" piece on Maine Machine Products Company (MMPCo.) in South Paris, a company that provides precision custom manufacturing for the telecommunications, semiconductor, medical and defense industries. After decades of relative prosperity, the firm suffered significant layoffs during the recent economic slowdown, but is now poised to establish itself as a national leader. Roland Sutton, CEO, says business couldn't be better, noting that a 25,000-square-foot addition is in operation. Michael Faunce, MMPCo.'s chief financial officer, notes that the firm's niche as a custom and precision shop is one that hasn't yet been outsourced overseas, but he is keeping close tabs nonetheless. Founded in 1957, the company now employs 140 workers.
