Abstract

"Focus on Marketing" piece on Pierce Promotions of Portland, founded in 1990 by Sue and Clint Pierce to do event marketing and product promotion. The firm also has office locations in Boston, and Bentonville, Arkansas. The company uses "retailtainment," a term coined by Wal-Mart, to grab shoppers' attention with a bit of entertainment. Pierce is one of eight companies authorized to stage retailtainment events in Wal-Mart stores and is also authorized to stage traditional in-store demo events. In June, Pierce was acquired by New York-based Omnicom Group. Last year companies spent more on product promotion and event marketing than they did on traditional advertising.
