Abstract
An article on Farm Fresh Connection, a for-profit subsidiary of the nonprofit Maine Sustainable Agriculture Society, which is a group trying to develop a fresh market for Maine farmers and help keep them in business. Farm Fresh, under Martha Putnam, is working with 60 farmers to supply vegetables to Bates and Bowdoin colleges, Central Maine Medical Center, and some Portland-area restaurants. Putnam, who formerly ran the Farm to Market stands at the Portland Public Market, is a passionate advocate for Maine With details on the venture, how it is funded, and efforts to have farmers start planning some seed purchases and harvests around clients' needs.
