Abstract
"Focus on Energy" piece reporting that, in late June, the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) granted Bangor-based Evergreen Windpower LLC a construction permit to build a 50-megawatt wind power facility in the town of Mars Hill in Aroostook County. Within days of the approval, Maine Audubon filed an appeal to the permit arguing that Evergreen Windpower should be required to conduct biological studies to determine if the turbine blades would harm wildlife, specifically migratory birds, raptors and bats. The DEP has not officially responded to Maine Audubon's appeal letter.
