Abstract
Consultant John Wissman worked unsuccessfully to find a buyer for Lincoln Pulp and Paper and Eastern Fine Paper in Brewer, owned by Massachusetts-based Eastern Pulp and Paper. After Eastern Pulp went bankrupt, he formed First Paper Holding Corp. with two partners and acquired Eastern Pulp's assets. First Paper Holding sold the Massachusetts offices and turned the Brewer mill over to the city in order to focus on the Lincoln mill, which serves a niche market. CEO Keith Van Scotter feels the Lincoln mill is viable on its own and can move into other niche markets. The renamed Lincoln Paper and Tissue posted a profit three months after restarting. With details on the current wood fiber shortage and how fiber is turned to paper.
