Abstract
"Focus on Greater Bangor" piece on former Penobscot Indian Nation chief Barry Dana, who is interviewed about tribal economic development in the aftermath of last year's failed tribal casino proposal. Barry speaks of creating a corporation as a separate arm of tribal government to identify business plans as well as projects that might include wind turbines, a water bottling plant with Poland Spring, importing prescription drugs from Canada, and a four-tribe credit union. He discusses how a casino would have accelerated the process of economic development and how the tribe's seven annual high-stakes bingo games and wood harvesting provide almost all its revenue.
