Abstract

"Focus on Banking & Finance" piece with an interview with Howard R. Gray Jr., superintendent of the Bureau of Financial Institutions, who recently gave his annual report to the Legislature and who sees strong corporate governance as increasingly important to Maine banks. Gray speaks of the impact of consolidation on the banking industry, the change in post-Enron accounting rules and how boards of directors will need to be more educated, the thumbprint verification system, and the impact of the federal Patriot Act on the banking business.
