Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on a 2005 increase for Maine employers in the state unemployment tax from 0.44 percent to 0.52 percent of the first $12,000 of an employee's salary, a change that will generate the additional $13.8 million needed to fund the system and maintain the mandated reserve. Employers worry that the hike will hurt the economy.
