Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on a proposal by Rep. Anne Perry (D-Calais) to create a fraud unit in the Bureau of Insurance. The amount of insurance money withheld on suspected fraudulent claims increased from around $9 million in 1999 to nearly $15.7 million in 2003. Alessandro Iuppa, superintendent of the state Bureau of Insurance, said the most common form of fraud cases are workers' compensation claims.
