Abstract
"Focus on Midcoast Region" piece on developer Dan Zappala, a Haverhill, Mass., native and Friendship resident who saw the potential in Cape Jellison at Stockton Springs and got a bargain on more than 120 acres of harbor-front land in 1999. Now he is developing the 64-unit The Village at Stockton Harbor condos and the 16-unit South Cape Shores through his company, Northbrook Properties, which does business as Birch Island Builders. Zappala cooperated with local officials in building fewer buildings and putting them nearly out of sight of the road, creating more public access to the shoreline, and improving infrastructure. Change is coming to the town, which is bypassed by Route 1 and was one of the few remaining undiscovered midcoastal areas.
