Abstract

Lewiston-based Hartford Inc., a third-generation company run by brothers Lucas and Justin Hartford, has expanded its campground insurance business to include paddlesports outfitters. Hartford Inc., which includes The Hartford Agency and other entities, is behind the Evergreen USA Risk Retention Group, which covers some 1,500 campgrounds nationwide. Hartford helped launch Evergreen, but it is owned by the people it covers. It is the longest continuously operating insurance program for the campground industry, which is a risky market in terms of liability. The two brothers cover a few dozen paddlesport operations and are aiming for judicious growth in that area.
