Abstract

"Focus: Western Maine" piece on the lack of skilled trade workers, with a focus on the Building Trades Training Collaborative. Peter Connell, president and CEO of Oxford Homes, said his company has particular difficulty filling positions in jobs like electrician, plumber and finish carpenter. The problem is big enough to bring together Oxford Hills' five manufactured home competitors, along with other building and development organizations, to form the collaborative. Barb Olson, vice president of the Growth Council of Oxford Hills, says looking at the larger issue of community development in the region will help increase training and productivity in the manufactured home industry.
