Abstract
Plum Creek Timber Company, which publicly presented its 30-year "concept plan" for the development of acreage around Moosehead Lake, suffered some $15,000 of damage from vandalism. Casella, which processes a large proportion of the state's solid waste, must pay more than $40,000 for repairs because of damage caused by vandals. The identity of the vandals is unknown, although they might have been "environmental terrorists" such as a radical group known as the Earth Liberation Front (ELF). Plum Creek has beefed up security and Casella is reviewing its policies, although it is nearly impossible for companies to predict and prevent vandalism.
