Abstract

"Focus on Building & Real Estate" piece on Bar Harbor's updating of its comprehensive plan and the enactment of a six-month moratorium on new subdivisions because of concerns about density and affordable housing. Planning group MDI Tomorrow found a shortfall of some 400 units of affordable housing on the island, a problem several groups are working to address. Perry Moore, former member of the Bar Harbor Planning Board, says the town council ignored the board's request for zoning changes and now is faced with a "political hornet's nest." Bob Baldacci of N.H.-based Ocean Properties has plans for a high-end 40-unit condominium development, which some think sparked the moratorium.
