Abstract

"Focus on Building & Real Estate" piece on how Purist Energy of Portland, Khameleon Nails of Carrabasset, and the University of Maine Advanced Engineered Wood Composites Center in Orono are working to develop a simplified solar hot water heater, self-filling finishing nails, and hurricane-resistant panels and joints. Dana Fisher of Purist Energy hopes to manufacture the more easily installed solar water heater in the Portland area this year. Inventor Jeff Strunk hopes to launch his unique nail product next November, and Habib Dagher of the Wood Composites Center is working to get the hurricane-resistant products code-approved.
