Abstract

"From the Ground Up" piece on how Wal-Mart stores attract retailers who hope to capitalize on Wal-Mart's traffic. There are roughly 23 Wal-Mart stores in Maine, many of which are being converted to "supercenters." In the process, retail sites centered on Wal-Mart become local and regional retail draws, and Wal-Mart stores begin to move into Maine's more rural areas.
