Abstract

"Focus on Professional Services" piece with a profile of and interview with Peter Pitegoff, the new dean of the University of Maine School of Law in Portland. In keeping with his past experience, he wants to expand the school's engagement with national legal policy debates; develop closer ties with the private sector, nonprofits, and state and local governments; and see the school grow from some 260 students to about 350. He speaks of the school's connection with the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic, its patent law program, its excellence as a teaching institution, the legal specialty of intellectual property law, new "bridge" courses that connect theory and practice, and his hope of becoming more involved in economic development in Maine.
