Abstract
"Perspectives" piece by Rep. John Richardson, D-Brunswick, on the need for additional funding for Maine's courts. Currently, Chief Justice Leigh Saufley's courts rank last in the nation in the number of people staffing the court system. The supplemental budget currently under deliberation includes an increase of $1.2 million for Maine's Judicial branch, from which a new business court will be created. The increase will provide funds for two more judges to handle general cases and two judges dedicated to a specialized consumer and commercial docket, as well as support staff and security.
