Abstract

"Capitol Update" piece on rising energy costs, noting that more than 12,000 commercial and industrial electricity customers will see price increases of up to 19 percent in March. Kurt Adams, chairman of the Public Utilities Commission (PUC), said that most large electricity consumers negotiate with electricity generators for their power. Depending on when contracts have expired, some companies have seen huge increases - as large as 100 percent - in power costs. David Clough, Maine director of the National Federation of Independent Business, said the rate increases are going to be devastating for some companies.
