Abstract

Part one of a three-part series on venture capitalism, by Michael Gurau, president of Portland-based CEI Community Ventures Inc. Maine is considered remote, even by Boston standards, and only one Maine company received a venture capital deal last year. Venture capital investors typically profit on only a third of their investments. Technology businesses tend to attract the majority of investment capital, a sector in which Maine is a relatively small player.
