Abstract

"Focus on York County" piece on York Beach, which the town is attempting to revive, with help from the York Beach Renaissance Committee. Because of restrictions, developers have had trouble renovating decaying buildings. Redevelopment requires that the town devise a flood control and mitigation plan to deal with storm surges and freshwater runoff. The committee has proposed decreased setbacks and other measures to aid development, although some believe that trying to make York Beach an upscale tourist destination is misguided. With details on the York Village Business Center, which is being constructed to fit in with the historic village.
