Abstract

"Base Watch" piece reporting that members of the Legislature's Business, Research and Economic Development Committee recently voted to support a special base redevelopment zone that offers tax breaks to the Brunswick area. In other base news, Donald Gerrish, Brunswick town manager, recently proposed moving the town's police department and recreation department onto the base to take advantage of a federal law that allows he transfer of former military property to the town at no cost. Meanwhile, new data suggests the Brunswick region could lose $129 million a year in consumer spending and 1,440 private-sector jobs when the base closes.
