Abstract

"Focus on Northern Maine" piece on Larry Conrad, 61, director of the Maine office of the Defense Finance and Accounting Service at the former Loring Air Force Base in Limestone. The center escaped closure last year and will see 300 new employees in the next few years. In an interview, Conrad discusses his relief at the decision that spared the center, how Maine's governor and entire congressional delegation waited all day in Limestone to hear the decision, preparations for the influx of new employees, job requirements and local hires, and how he attracts employees to the remote Limestone area.
