Abstract
"Focus: Building & Real Estate" piece on the private island real estate market in Maine, with a profile of Jim Trimble, owner of Trimble Private Brokerage in Bangor. Trimble has built a career out of selling islands and other waterfront real estate. Though Maine has more than 3,000 islands in coastal and lake waters, inventory of available island real estate at any given time tends to be low. In recent years, nonprofit conservation organizations like the Topsham-based Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT) have emerged alongside private buyers to acquire island properties. With comments by Mike and Carol LaRosa, owners of Wilderness Island on Fish River Lake; Terry Sortwell, a principal with LandVest in Camden; and Richard Knox, spokesman for MCHT.
