Abstract
"Focus: Environment" piece on the Maine Compost School in Monmouth, a nine-year-old nonprofit where students learn large-scale composting through classroom sessions and hands-on field trips. Graduates from the program have launched more than 40 commercial composting operations in Maine. With comments from Carlos Quijano, founder of Coast of Maine Organic Products; Andy Omo, founder of a composting operation for the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport; Ron Slater, manager of Sandy River Waste Recycling Association's facility in Farmington; and Mark Hutchinson, a member of the Maine Compost Team who serves on faculty at the school.
