Abstract
"Focus on Energy & Utilities" piece on several alternative energy companies working with grant funding from the Maine Technology Institute. Ascendant Energy in Owls Head is owned by Chris Straka, who hopes to have solar cogenerators on the market by next summer. Chase Saunders, Paul Maguire, Dion Linkel and Josh Andrei of Warp Drive Engines of Harpswell are developing an internal combustion hydrogen engine for marine and industrial use, an engine that could make its fuel from water. Saunders and his partners hope to have a prototype of the Warp Drive ready in two years. Stephen Abbadessa of Integrated Fuel Solutions in Amherst is developing a kit to convert internal combustion engines to hybrid electrics, engines that could be used on boats as well as cars.
