Abstract
"From The Ground Up" piece on the attractiveness of Maine's commercial real estate market to out-of-state investors. Last month, Guggenheim Real Estate, a global real estate investment firm, purchased close to $60 million of commercial real estate in downtown Portland. There are several recent examples of large-scale, multi-million-dollar transactions involving out-of-state companies or individuals, including downtown office towers in Portland such as Two Monument Square, Canal Plaza, and Portland Square. Local investors should take a harder look at opportunities in the Maine market. State and local policies that promote business incentives and reductions in the overall tax burden are needed to help spur the momentum of investors.
